A small church located just outside the eastern walls of L’Aquila, along the ancient road from Amiternum and Paganica. Built in the medieval period in the 13th century, it houses a 14th-century Marian image of Byzantine inspiration, venerated as the protector of the city and travelers. A place of centuries-old devotion, it has been restored several times, including after earthquakes, and remains a charming stop for those visiting the capital of Abruzzo. It is a place much loved by the people of L’Aquila, who visit it not only for religious reasons but also to spend time immersed in nature just a short distance from the city; in fact, several trekking and mountain bike trails start from here.
