Welcome to the Monastery-Fortress of Santo Spirito d’Ocre, a Cistercian jewel founded in 1222 by the hermit Placido da Roio. Perched on a rocky spur, it dominates the Aterno Valley with its high walls, giving it the appearance of a true medieval fortress.
Passing through the pointed arch gateway, you will discover spaces that tell the story of centuries of monastic life: the single-nave church with 13th-century frescoes, the chapter house, the library, and the panoramic loggia.
For over four centuries, this place was a center of prayer, work, and hospitality, until its suppression in 1652. Today, carefully restored, it hosts events, exhibitions, and stays, offering visitors the same peace and beauty that have defined it for eight centuries.
