Welcome to Piazza Regina Margherita, one of the beating hearts of L’Aquila. This elegant square, set along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, took shape between the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming the city’s drawing room. In front of you stands the scenic Triton Fountain, built in 1881 and set within a monumental façade made from stones salvaged from the Church of San Francesco. The statue, in terracotta painted to resemble bronze, depicts the mighty sea god holding his trident. The fountain is not just a decorative element, but a true symbol for the people of L’Aquila, who have seen it revived over the years after both restorations and periods of neglect. Today, thanks to recent redevelopment works, Piazza Regina Margherita shines once again, ready to welcome you into its history, art, and vibrant life.
